Emblematic designer Johnny Coca was appointed creative director of the traditional British Mulberry brand last July 2015. Coca, originally from Spain, moved to Paris to study art and design in the renown Beaux Arts and Boulle schools. He is behind Celine’s most coveted triangle shaped bag and other iconic hand bags for the Parisian house.

The designer’s signature  work uniform is a pair of metal hoops and a kilt which he wears daily. He joined the Mulberry creative team in Kensington Church Street with the intention to reveal the brand’s British singularity blended with a dash of new exciting elements.

“I want to instil a sense of British character and lineage back into the Mulberry brand, building on our heritage rather than creating something completely new. To be truly modern you need to have respect for the past.”

True to his words he studied Mulberry’s past, fabricating a new logo influenced by the original 70’s Mulberry aesthetic and visiting the brand’s factories: The Rookery and The Willows located in Somerset. He has controversially revamped the classic Mulberry iconic bags including the Bayswater and the Chester, offering a fresh feel for the next autumn winter 2016 ready-to-wear collection.

Coca’s next collection for Mulberry has been revealed on the brand’s Instagram:
