The Soho Food Feast was originally set-up by Margot Henderson and Melanie Arnold to raise money for the underfunded Soho Parish Primary School with the help of Anita Moir, who manages the school’s healthy-eating kitchen. In recent years, the event has been headed by Holly Isabella, who is organising the 2017 edition. The weekend has gradually grown from a school fete to a celebrated annual event, with an impressive programme of exciting restaurants, chefs, bars, food demos and live entertainment. For its seventh edition, Soho Food Feast are working with some of London’s finest eateries, including a number of Something Curated favourites.

This year’s event takes place over the weekend of Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th June. Tickets can be purchased in advance here, with prices starting from £15. Once inside the venue, visitors can buy food tokens for each restaurant, exploring the many different stalls. Each eatery will be offering up a small signature dish, giving visitors a slight taste of what’s on their menu. With so many incredible restaurants taking part, expect a diverse array of dishes being prepared for the event. Among the mouth-watering roster, listed in full below, Something Curated takes a closer look at some of the establishments whose offerings we’re particularly eager to try.

Kiln Soho || Ben Chapman

After the opening of Thai barbecue restaurant Smoking Goat, Ben Chapman has launched another eatery, this time on Brewer Street. The menu takes inspiration from Thailand’s border; the Burmese and Yunnanese dishes are a combination of grilled items and a daily noodle dish. The majority of the food is prepared in open kilns designed by Chapman himself. Designer Dan Preston is responsible for the long stainless steel counter and the open kitchen. Even though the menu is Asian-inspired, the products used by the kitchen are British, including aged lamb, reared by Cornwall Project farmer Dave Soper.

BAO || Shing Tat Chung, Erchen Chang & Wai Ting Chung

(via About Time)

After studying design, Shing Tat Chung, Erchen Chang & Wai Ting Chung all spent a summer traveling Taiwan inspiring BAO, which got its beginnings as a market stall in 2013. In 2015, BAO’s first permanent location opened in Soho after the trio partnered with the Sethi Family. The restaurant, specialising in handmade steam buns, is a small, neutral space where diners enjoy their food surrounded by light wood panelling or looking out onto the street. Open for lunch and dinner, with a break in between, the restaurant can accommodate up to 32 visitors, but steam buns and the xiao chi, or small eats, options are all easy meals that don’t require long visits.

Andrew Edmunds || Andrew Edmunds

Andrew Edmunds, established in 1986, is located in an 18th century town house and is adjoined by a print shop of the same name. The intimate dining space is complete with white table cloths, candle sticks and hand-picked flowers at every table. The hand-written menu is regularly updated to include seasonal ingredients and provide a unique dining experience. The personal touches made at every table and on every menu are modelled after the individual experience Andrew Edmunds himself aimed for. Even though he is no longer managing the space, he still pops in for a meal every once in awhile.

Som Saa || Andy Oliver, Mark Dobbie & Tom George

(via Som Saa)

From modest beginnings as a Thai street food residency at Hackney’s Climpson’s Arch, Som Saa had enough fans to raise £700,000 after just three days of crowdfunding. Joined by co-founder Tom George and chef Mark Dobbie, Andy Oliver launched the eatery’s first permanent space in a fabric warehouse on Commercial Street last year. Having received much acclaim, the popular east London restaurant serves up regional Thai dishes alongside an eclectic cocktail offering.
