Taking a closer look at the best of June’s new releases, restocks, and busy calendar of auctions, Something Curated has compiled a list of ten of the most covetable items available for purchase this month, spanning art, fashion, home and more.

Art

Joan Miró || Le Captive, 1969

(via Paddle8)

La Captive features an abstracted, barely-human figure united with its cage. Elsewhere in the image is a shape suggesting a hammer and sickle, fitting with Mirό’s frequent critiques of bourgeois society. Like much of Mirό’s work, La Captive demonstrates the artist’s increasing embrace of automatism. The image is sparse, showcasing the careful use of colour and sophisticated consideration of space. Gone are the signature shapes of Mirό’s youth, replaced instead by sprawling amorphous forms. Available at Paddle8.

Wolfgang Tillmans || Freischwimmer #84

(via Phillips)

A sustained meditation of observation and perception, Wolfgang Tillmans’ hypnotic Freischwimmer #84 belongs to a series epitomising the 2000 Turner Prize winner’s pioneering and innovative style. Similar works were the subject of Tate Modern’s recent Tillmans exhibition and are currently on show at the Fondation Beyeler. Divorcing photography from its essential apparatus, Tillmans exposes photographic paper, manipulating light as though it were painterly pigment. Through the use of a light pen, the artist sculpts and traces his subject, the plane of the work recording movement in time. Available at Phillips.

Fashion

Jean Paul Gaultier || Vintage Tattoo Print Top

(via Farfetch)

Jean Paul Gaultier has captivated the fashion world throughout his 40-year career, scandalising and garnering praise in equal parts for his iconoclastic haute couture collections. In 2014, Gaultier announced that he would be shuttering his ready-to-wear and menswear collections to focus on his couture line, explaining that he was frustrated by the fashion industry’s increasingly demanding schedule. This vintage multi-coloured tattoo print top from Gaultier’s said menswear line, featuring a round neck and long sleeves, marks a pinnacle in the designer’s popularity. Available at Farfetch.

Hecho || Drawstring-Waist Linen Shorts

(via Matches Fashion)

Inspired by Mexico City, Hecho’s considered basics are the perfect addition to any warm-weather roster. These linen shorts come in an army-green hue, and have a relaxed, loose-leg shape that can be adjusted with the drawstring ties. Utilise the multiple pockets to keep small essentials within easy reach. Available at Matches Fashion.

Molly Goddard || Angela Top

(via Molly Goddard)

Featuring on this year’s LVMH Prize shortlist, London native Molly Goddard specialises in traditional handcraft techniques such as pleating, smocking and crocheting. Her work touches upon themes of special occasions, nostalgia and coming of age, often taking inspiration from party dressing and Sunday best. The techniques that she utilises serve to create clothes that are both delicate and fragile, but the character she designs for conflicts with the beauty of her technique, and brings a clumsy and charming awkwardness to her silhouettes and fabric combinations. Available at Molly Goddard.

Accessories

Marina B || Black Enamel Diamond Gold Earrings

(via 1stdibs)

From the late 1970s to the early 1990s, the voluminous, bold, and colourful jewellery of Marina Bulgari, shortened to Marina B, was the choice of eminent stars like Sophia Loren, and other women of international society and best-dressed lists. On sale are these dramatic, articulated earrings from her Mitzouko collection. Rarely found in today’s market, these earrings are signed and numbered and in their original box. They are just over two inches long and have approximately seven carats of fine white diamonds. Available at 1stdibs.

Marni || Hook-&-Loop Fussbett Sandal

(via Marni)

Founded in 1994, Marni built its success on an elusive yet distinctive design signature that celebrates individuality. The label’s visual language speaks of graphic rigor and unconventional detailing, and it pushes the subtle and subversive boundaries of function and proportion. The Fussbett sandal in calfskin features a rising upper, contrast colours, treaded sole in jute and rubber, and hook-and-loop fastener, ideal for the summer months. Available at Marni.

Home

Nissen Richards || The Grange, London N16

(via Aucoot)

The architects, Nissen Richards, have been careful to retain many stunning original features, creating truly inspiring spaces. A comfortable home full of history and character with private off-street parking. The Grange is set over three stories and has a magnificent ground-floor living space with soaring ceiling heights that feels like a welcoming sanctuary. The original West Hackney Parochial School was built in 1837 as two large halls that housed the girls’ wing to the west and the boys’ wing to the east. The building was later used as a church hall, a social hall and a snooker house. Available at Aucoot.

Piero Fornasetti || Vintage Wooden Room Divider

(via Pamono)

The Italian painter, sculptor, craftsman, and decorator Piero Fornasetti cultivated a highly original style throughout his career. Awe-struck by the past greatness of Italian art, Fornasetti developed an eclectic style, not confining himself, however, to the motifs of the Novecento style, which was inspired by Neo-Classicism. Inspired by Surrealism and pittura metafisica, he used pictorial motifs to decorate silk scarves, furniture, porcelain plates, vessels, and other objects. This room divider was designed by Fornasetti in the 1950s, and features four wooden panels set on wheels. One side depicts musical instruments, and the other one shows a library of books. Available at Pamono.

Books

Thomas Hoepker || Strange Encounters

(via Thomas Hoepker)

In his extensive career as a photojournalist, Thomas Hoepker has travelled around the world and documented many dramatic and confronting situations for magazines and newspapers. Yet he has always had an eye for absurd, strange, or funny moments and encounters, which are now compiled in this volume. According to Hoepker, most of these are fleeting moments, things you see from the corner of your eye None of the images in this book have been arranged, all of them just happened. The extensive collection of human comedy stumbled upon through careful observation includes both recent photos and others from Hoepkers archive; each is informatively captioned. Available at Peperoni Books.
