Shara Hughes || Leaky Toilet, 2005

(via Christie’s)

Shara Hughes, born in Atlanta in 1981, lives and works in New York. She graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design, attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, where she received a fellowship to attend the Vermont Studio Center. Expanding on her work, the artist said: “I have always used this feeling of collage through different ways to use paint. Texture, pattern, and perspective is something I like to use to describe a space in ways that maybe don’t always make sense.” Available at Christie’s.

Rosemarie Trockel || Wearing Propaganda, 1996/2012

(via House of Voltaire)

Wearing Propaganda revisits a piece by German artist Rosemarie Trockel made in 1996, which is in the collection of Kunsthalle Hamburg. The image depicts the artist holding two dolls standing over an oven, relating to the artists motif of stoves. The work is a good example of her interest in exploring ideas of gender and domestic space. The artist described the work as showing her being torn between human and animal. It is taken from a series of three, and this edition has an added unique element of the Lacoste sticker. Available at House of Voltaire.

SACAI || Striped Dress

(via Farfetch)

Chitose Abe is the creative director of Sacai, a label she founded in 1999. Prior to founding Sacai, Abe worked at Comme des Garçons as a pattern cutter under Rei Kawakubo and later as a member of Junya Watanbe’s design team. The brand is renowned for its prodigious technical ability, splicing two items of clothing together to create a sum that is greater than its parts. This blue and white silk-cotton striped dress from the label features an oversized fit, drawstring waist, side pockets and a draped asymmetric skirt. Available at Farfetch.

Acne Studios || Niagara Peace T-shirt

(via Acne Studios)

Acne Studios Niagara Peace ink blue is a classic crewneck t-shirt with a peace sign print on the front. This style is constructed of a mid weight brushed fleece. Due to the individual dying of every garment, each item holds a unique appearance. The Emoji range is unisex and is based on men’s sizing. Available at Acne Studios.

Accessories

Louis Vuitton x Rewind || Customised Vintage Monogram Sac Plat

(via Rewind)

Currently available is a special edition of the Louis Vuitton Sac Plat bag from Rewind’s Emotional Baggage collection. This piece has been hand painted with a Chinese dragon and a scattering of butterflies. Its muted tones play subtly against Louis Vuitton’s familiar monogrammed leather. Available at Rewind.

Undercover || Boonie Hat

(via Goodhood)

In its infancy Undercover was influenced by Punk, with ripped t-shirts and patched leather jackets making up the mainstay of the collection. Today Jun Takahashi’s aesthetic remains subversive, but is infused with a technicality and clarity. Included in Undercover’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection, the Boonie Hat features an embroidered patch at the side, air vents and an adjustable drawstring. Available at Goodhood.

Charlotte Perriand, Le Corbusier & Pierre Jeanneret || Chaiselongue LC4

Books

Eileen Gray || Intimate Architecture

(via HYX)

Eileen Gray was one of the most emblematic figures of the art deco and modernist movements, having developed a new and intimate form of architecture over her 50-year career. Through her projects, and with great independence with regard to her contemporaries and critics, she anticipated the eternal movement of sensitivities, optimising the relation between space and furniture, defying conventions and uses, and advocating a return to emotion. This monograph is published in conjunction with an exhibition at the Centre Pompidou. Available at Idea Books.

Pierre et Gilles || Les Cosmonautes, 1991

(via Paddle8)

Artistic and romantic partners Pierre Commoy and Gilles Blanchard produce opulent and often provocative portraits of cultural icons, composing their stylised and studio images collaboratively since 1976. Combining Pierre’s photographic practice with Gilles’ painterly one, the digital images are retouched with acrylic paint, giving them what their gallerist Jérôme de Noirmont refers to as “an aesthetic perfection no synthetic image could rival”. With a mélange of contemporary camp and pop iconography, Pierre and Gilles’ flamboyant and fantastical photographs, whether religious, erotic or supernatural, form a succinct “plastic pantheon” of work. Available at Paddle8.
