a shimmer of possibility at Foyles Bookshop || Paul Graham (21 Feb)

Paul Graham, New Orleans (Woman Eating), 2004 (via MoMA)

To celebrate the reissue of one of the most significant photobooks of the 21st century, Foyles bookshop will host a talk with photographer, Paul Graham, on 21 February. His celebrated series, a shimmer of possibility, was shot on his travels across the United States, between 2004 and 2006. Published as a collection of 12 individual books, a shimmer of possibility tells a story of everyday American experience in each of its volumes. Graham himself is a transient observer, capturing the beauty and also the mundanity of ordinary life, through his lens, as he traverses North America. Having sold out within 10 weeks of its original release, a shimmer of possibility has been out of print since. The work received international acclaim and was awarded the Paris Photo-Aperture Prize. Graham will be joined in a discussion about his seminal work by Liz Jobey, Associate Editor of the FT Weekend. Book here.
