The Instagram Account Celebrating The Beauty & Humour Of Fashion Footwear
By Something CuratedSimultaneously celebrating the ridiculousness and beauty of fashion footwear over the years, Instagram account @larslala is a fascinating and thoroughly entertaining resource of high heel history. The project began life as a personal research account, but as its founder sifted through Vogue’s archives and various other runway snap sites, he unearthed a countless number of ill fitting shoes. Starting as a humorous “footwear fails” page, @larslala provides a dense and inspiring supply of magnificent shoe porn, complete with his signature tongue-in-cheek captions.
Among the recently featured shoes are a pair of glistening silver boots by London College of Fashion graduate Robert Wun. The “Vortex Boots” from the Hong Kong born designer’s AW18 collection feature heels which appear like swelling stalactites of molten metal, dripping onto the ground.
Another boot, cheekily captioned “Who knew that the Grinch and the Easter bunny were related!?” by @larslala, comes from London-based Spanish designer Paula Canovas del Vas. Inspired by the surrealist work of film director Alejandro Jodorowsky, Canovas del Vas, a Central Saint Martins graduate, uninhibitedly plays with volumes, proportions and materials. Made from mohair, the “Diablo” boots are a true work of art, produced by eight different artisans.
Besides recent graduates and lesser known emergent designers, there are an abundance of shoes from the archives of Galliano, Margiela, Prada, Oscar de la Renta, Balenciaga, and a myriad more of influential labels. An image of a crystallised strappy peep toe from Italian haute couture designer Giambattista Valli, documenting a little toe mishap, perhaps epitomises the combination of beauty and humour fundamental to @larslala’s idiosyncratic aesthetic.
