Something Curated highlights eight of the most exciting new and recently launched restaurants to try in New York this April, taking a closer look at the founders and proprietors behind the promising food offerings.

Gertie || Nate Adler

Inspired by the Los Angeles restaurant scene and restaurants like Sqirl, Gjelina and Gjusta, Nate Adler’s new venture features simple plates with a focus on the ingredients. The Williamsburg spot serves breakfast dishes like bialy with smoked salmon, cream cheese and pickled beets until 4 pm. They also have a tempting afternoon menu with a variety of sandwiches. After 5pm, enjoy the dinner menu with rotisserie options and the bar’s selection of cocktails, boozy sodas, wines and drafts.

Hunky Dory || Claire Sprouse

Sustainability is the focus of this new American restaurant and bar by Claire Sprouse. Sprouse makes her own orgeat with sunflower seeds rather than almonds, which require much more water to grow. The kitchen also plans to use solids that are strained off, lessening waste. The menu is split into large and small plates, with meals like smashed potato hash with nduja and aged cheddar, or small plates topped fruit salad with chimoy.

TAK Room || Thomas Keller

Chef Thomas Keller’s new project is set to be a two-story space with an open dining room, lounge and bar in the new Hudson Yards dining complex. Returning to continental dining and boasting a timeless flair, the impressive menu will include dishes such as Maine lobster and filet mignon.

Wild Ink || Serry Zhu

Another prominent newcomer in the Hudson Yards dining collective, Wild Ink’s restaurant and lounge has a vibrant and open aesthetic, with an “East meets West” concept. Serving up contemporary Asian food, select options on the menu are dim sum and curried lamb momo. Head to the bar after the main course for a cocktail or light snack.

20 Hudson Yards, 500 West 33rd Street Fl 5, NY 10001

Wayan || Cedric Vongerichten

This French-Indonesian restaurant has selections rangin from satays to sea bass cooked in banana leaves and Balinese-style suckling pig. The dishes are meant for sharing, and mirror meals from Cedric’s time traveling abroad and visits to the Southeast Asian nation where his wife Ochi is from. Some flavors will be mellowed for the Western palate as a part of the French side of the restaurant.

20 Spring Street, NY 10012

TabeTomo || Tomotsugu Kubo

This new tsukemen specialty restaurant in New York is a promising new ramen shop in the city. Small dishes range from tori kawa, or crispy chicken skin with house sauces, to kakuni, braised pork belly with radish. As far as the tsukemen goes, the Japanese dipping ramen with pork broth is a must-try. If you’re feeling daring, you can even get the megamori tsukemen challenge, the largest bowl of the dish in New York City.

131 Avenue A, NY 10009

Au Cheval || Brendan Sodikoff

Chicago burger joint Au Cheval has now made its way to New York, and burger fanatics should be sure to check it out. The nationally acclaimed burger consists of two griddled four-once patties, topped with American cheese, pickles and dijonnaise, all on a toasted bun. The New York location will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

33 Cortlandt Alley, NY 10013

Sushi By M || Chef Tim

This no-frills sushi spot, while a small space, is well worth the visit. Serving up one classic option, the 10-piece omasake, this sushi bar is simple but satisfying.  After the omakase, try the Big Mac, a dish with chopped toro, seared toro, wagyu, and uni stacked inside a crispy piece of seaweed.
