Art

Eroded Attaché, 2019 || Daniel Arsham

(via RIMOWA)

Artist Daniel Arsham re-imagines a vintage RIMOWA case from the archive as an archaeological discovery from a future, dystopian world. Cast from a RIMOWA case from decades past, the suitcase appears as an eroding artefact, illustrating how new technologies can quickly become obsolete. Presented as an archival object, this multiple is presented complete with art handling gloves and collaborative stickers, housed in a contemporary special edition of the attaché case that inspired the piece. Available at RIMOWA.

Gangster, 2013 || Aristides Logothetis

(via Paddle8)

Aristides Logothetis, born in Greece, lives and works between New York and Athens. Gangster playfully suggests that sexuality is an essential human motivation. The artist notes: “Sex and procreation politics are behind many of our strategies. My own personal experience, as well as my understanding of our American sexual anxieties—particularly when manifested as racism or economic control—have led me to embrace sexual metaphors as part of a larger systemic examination.” Available at Paddle8.

Accessories

Handbag || Stefan Cooke

For SS20, London-based label Stefan Cooke showed their first season with NEWGEN. This season’s offering, entitled Drama Major, took its inspiration from NYU students and New York’s off-Broadway scene. Signature deconstructed knitwear was joined by corsetry detailed shirting, and hand-tied tulle featured on tops and trousers. A series of three handbags from last week’s show are now available for purchase. Available at Stefan Cooke.

CD Acetate Sunglasses || Dior

(via MATCHESFASHION)

Dior’s futuristic glasses are shaped to a streamlined oval shape that emulates the house’s dynamic CD monogram. They’re crafted in Italy from clear acetate and set with navy-tinted lenses and wide temples, then finished with gold-tone metal and embossed accents, including the house’s namesake monogram as a nod to its storied heritage. Available at MATCHESFASHION.

Fashion

Leather Jacket || Marni

(via LN-CC)

Under the creative directorship of Francesco Risso, Marni’s experimental approach is evoked through considered details and fabrications. This season’s leather jacket is crafted from leather in a soft natural grain finish, featuring a stand collar, front welt pockets, exposed seams and off-centre button fastening. Available at LN-CC.

Archive Mesh Jacket || Comme Des Garçons

(via Farfetch)

Comme Des Garçons, the often avant-garde and always influential label was created by Rei Kawakubo in Tokyo in 1969 before heading to Paris in 1981 where it garnered both acclaim and controversy with a debut collection of distressed and deconstructed pieces. This archive men’s mesh jack in orange features a cutaway collar, front zip fastening, two front pockets and long sleeves. Availabe at Farfetch.

Treasure Chair, 2005 || Maarten Baas

(via Maarten Baas)

Expanding on the thinking behind his chair, German-born designer Maarten Baas explains: “With Treasure, I used my childhood method of building huts and applied it into designing a chair: with a hammer, nails and found boards. When the boards were too long or short, I improvised, resulting in a chair with naïve spontaneity. The first chair was made of various old found boards criss-crossed by coincidence, assembled into one unique chair.” Available at Pamono.

Queensborough Mews || Joanna Macfadyen

(via The Modern House)

Tucked away on Queensborough Mews, a short walk from the Italian Gardens of Hyde Park, is this exceptional two-bedroom, Mid-Century house, built in 1960/62 with original interiors designed by Joanna Macfadyen. Internal accommodation is arranged across three storeys, including a private roof terrace, balcony and a garage space currently used as an artists’ workshop and archive. Available at The Modern House.
