Highlighting this month’s most promising restaurant launches, Something Curated takes a closer look at what to try, as well as the founders and proprietors behind the openings.

 

Roe || Simon Whiteside

Originally a co-founder of the seafood restaurant Hook in Camden, chef Simon Whiteside is bringing his talent for sustainable seafood over to Pop Brixton for his first solo project called Roe from 7 November. With a minimalist ambiance and communal tables, the menu will highlight his Irish influences, serving up delectable dishes such as ink and Guinness soda bread with seaweed butter and mackerel pate, and confit sea trout with sea greens paired with oyster and sorrel emulsion. Additionally, there will be a daily whole fish special on the menu.

Kutir || Rohit Ghai & Abhi Sangwan  

Former Jamavar chef Rohit Ghai and former director of operations Abhi Sangwan, are teaming up to create Kutir. Meaning “hut” in Sanskrit, this new eatery is inspired by dishes that would be served at royal hunting expeditions in India. Kutir will offer a tasting menu, or as they like to call it, an “expedition” menu, alongside an a la carte menu featuring dishes such as their 24-hour slow-cooked roganjosh and truffle and mushroom khichadi. With an intimate space in a townhouse in Chelsea, it’s opening just in time for the winter ahead.

Hicce || Pip Lacey 

Opening on the top floor of Wolf & Badger, a marketplace for independent brands, is Hicce, a restaurant spearheaded by former Murano head chef, Pip Lacey. In Lacey’s words, the new King’s Cross space will be “very relaxed”, appealing to both shoppers and local workers in the area. Featuring a DIY open sandwich making bar by day and an extensive menu featuring peppered squid, lemon pickled kale, and bonito by night, there is something for everyone here.

Cérès || Camille Tardieu 

After serving up dishes inspired by her Sicilian and Provencal grandmothers at Southbound, a pop-up supper club in Hackney, Camille Tardieu will bring that same talent to her own establishment. Cérès’ menu highlights seasonally changing dishes, including rare wagyu X fillet with creamed aubergine and roasted garlic. On Sunday’s, Cérès serves up Mediterranean influenced plates, such as slow cooked meat and homemade pastas.

Market Hall Victoria || John Devitt, Shuko OdaMark Ogus, Tom Griffiths & More

Taking over the Victoria Street Arcade in front of the station is Market Hall Victoria, a new food court concept with over 12 vendors featured. Created by the team behind Market Halls Fulham, this new eatery will have seating for more than 400 people and three floors. Vendors include Roti King, Koya, Monty’s Deli, Super Tacos, Baozi Inn, Flank and Press Coffee, among others.

Imperial Treasure || Alfred Leung

Michelin-star awarded Imperial Treasure restaurants are now making their way over to London, their first venture out of Asia. With restaurants in Singapore, China, Hong Kong, and South Korea, Imperial Treasure offers a mix of casual and fine dining. Included on the London menu will be their famous Peking duck (which is served sliced at the table), grilled silver cod, and baked crab with pepper. Additionally, there will be a separate bar area and three private dining rooms.

Oxalis at The Shrub and Shutter || Nick Ross & Max de Nahlik 

Oxalis London is the first venture from duo Nick Ross and Max de Nahlik, following a successful five-month residency at The Sun & 13 Cantons in Soho, Oxalis has moved on to Brixton’s The Shrub and Shutter. Having spent the last several years working together at various establishments, the friends realised that their shared passion for seasonal British food and fine dining could be channelled into creating a restaurant of their own This time around the menu will feature the likes of a squid ink cracker with brown crab and lardo, and broad bean tortellini with cured egg, rabbit and beef tartar.

Louie Louie || Matt Klose & Sam Soan 

Until 25 December, Matt Klose, former chef at the Grub London pop-up, and Sam Soan, former head chef at Camberwell Arms & Franks Café, are taking up residency at Louie Louie, a café during the day, featuring guest chefs in the evenings. Klose and Soan’s food highlights seasonal produce and sustainable, collaborative cooking. On Mondays, they will be holding pasta night, with a wide choice of sauces paired with tagliatelle, along with a glass of wine or beer.
