Peter Marino Reinvents The Bulgari Flagship on Bond Street
By Something Curated
The Bulgari store on New Bond Street has re-opened with a new interior orchestrated by the emblematic architect Peter Marino.
He previously reinvented the flagship on Rome’s Via Condotti and has imported the house opulent style blending it with a more classical touch influenced by Sir John Soane, a British neo-classical inspiration for the New Bond Street flagship.
The store is a tasteful modern reinvention of a well over-versed Roman classical aesthetic. The two-storey boutique is marble-clad with a men’s area reminiscent of a 1950’s gentleman’s club.
A VIP lounge was incorporated in honor of Elizabeth Taylor, with portraits of the actress surrounded by the Bulgari jewelry she wore while filming Cleopatra. The main staircase is made out of rose marble and is surrounded by bronze mesh.
Always dressed up in black biker leather, the architect has created a illustrious persona for himself. Marino’s clients include Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior and the Four Seasons. His first break was designing the interior of Andy Warhol’s townhouse in 1978 for which he was paid in art.
