Based in South Kensington, Blakes is considered to be the world’s first luxury boutique hotel. Kyson is responsible for the design of Blakes Shoreditch, a project expected to be complete in 2017. Scott Kyson established his London architecture practice in 2004 and has worked on the EC4 Hotel, Lower Marsh Hotel, and La Sun House. Blakes Shoreditch location will have 87 rooms and will be located on Willow Street and also house a bar, restaurant, and business center. The existing building on the site was a 1970s vacant 3 storey building facing Victoria House. Blakes is a brand recognized for its exclusivity and luxury. Its South Kensington location has rooms inspired by India, China, Thailand, Cambodia, Egypt, Italy, and its home – London. The bar at the Blakes is trendy and has a crowd following. Blakes prides itself on its unique and expensive branding which it undoubtedly will bring to Shoreditch.

The Ace Hotel is headquartered in Portland Oregon and opened in Seattle in 1999 when a group of 3 friends converted a halfway house into the first ACE hotel. EPR Architects is responsible the Ace Hotel location at 100 Shoreditch High Street. Prior to the refurbishment to create the Ace Hotel, the Crowne Plaza Hotel was built on the site in 2004. Ace Hotel refers to itself as “a collection of individuals” who seek to change the idea of the conventional hotel into a hospitality community. Ace brought this mission statement to Shoreditch which is the perfect home for its alternative approach to business. The hotel chain is looking to bring collaboration and inspiration to the area known for its art, design, food, and culture.

Street Art that Influences the Hotel design

Local street art will influence design proposals within the finished hotel

According to co-owner and president of Gansevoort Hotel Group, Michael Achenbaum, the hotel chain is known for “providing a resort-like experience within the confines of New York or urban environments”. The hotel group tries to offer a luxurious experience while maintaining a cool social aspect. The group opened its first hotel in the Meatpacking District, an area which shares many of the same hip and up-and-coming qualities as Shoreditch. The Shoreditch location is set to be right off of Curtain road. The hotel will have 120 guest rooms including 7 luxury suites. The building will also house a restaurant, bar, rooftop pool and lounge, 24 hour fitness studio, and 6,000 square foot business center.

Nobu Shoreditch scheme

Nobu Matsuhisa was inspired by his travels when started his restaurant chain, Nobu, 20 years ago. He expanded this vision with the creation of Nobu Hotels and Residences which are built on “luxury, fun, craft and theater”. Nobu Hotels have a relaxed feel combined with energetic nightlife and luxurious amenities. The hotels are known for their feeling of celebrity, exception service, and freshness of its bars and restaurants. The Nobu Hotel in Shoreditch will have 156 rooms and is set to open in the beginning of 2016. The Shoreditch hotel’s developer, Meir Abutbul, describes the project as a “demonstration of beauty, drama and instinctive elegance has found a perfect home with the Nobu Hotel Shoreditch.” The hotel will sit on Willow Street in Shoreditch off of Great Eastern Street.

CitizenM describes itself as a collection of hotels for the type of people “who cross continents the way others cross streets.” The hotel chain prides itself on hosting independent, modern individuals exploring the world who also demand luxury accommodations for affordable prices. citizenM has 6 locations at present, and one in London by the South Bank. citizenM Shoreditch Village will have 211 rooms and is scheduled to open this year at its location near Shoreditch High Street.

Z Hotels focus on giving urbanites a place to stay for an affordable price. Z looks to house modern travelers in its locations throughout London and Europe. Z Shoreditch is just off the Silicon Roundabout and situated in The Bower, a development looking to become Shoreditch’s restaurant and retail destination. Rooms at Z Shoreditch will have ensuite bathroom, 40″ TVs, Sky channels, and complimentary WiFi. In line with Z Shoreditch’s policy of providing travelers with cheap accomodations, rooms with be available from £80.

Art’otel hoxton

The art’otel  is set to be built in the South Shoreditch Conservation Area. The art’otel is nearby the artistic influence of Hoxton Square which holds galleries and performing arts centers and fits well in the area. THe concept behind art’otel is to utilize its locations as public areas – displaying one artist’s originals throughout its hotels and in each room. The hotel will stand 18 storeys high with 350 guest rooms following a contemporary theme. At the top, there will be a restaurant and bar open to all of Shoreditch, establishments that will make the art within the hotel easily accessible to the public.

Having just opened, the Old Street Magistrates Court Hotel is the result of an intensive restoration project of the grade-II listed Magistrates Court and Police Station into a five star boutique hotel designed with a new modern art and media image to blend with the Shoreditch culture. The hotel has 128 guest rooms, a rooftop bar, swimming pool, bowling alley, and a cinema room.

In addition to its 270-something rooms are Tonic & Remedy in the lobby and mezzanine, shared by the house cocktail bar. Urban Coterie, run by chef Anthony Demetre, has climbed higher to the seventeenth floor.
