Gestures and Gazes: A Photo Essay Exploring Self-Expression and Craft Across India

Something Curated exclusively publishes the photo essay Gestures and Gazes by photographer Olivia Ghalioungui and stylist Manvi Bhatnagar. Exploring self-expression and craftsmanship across India, the series was shot in Delhi, Jaipur, Goa, and Amritsar, last December. The project weaves together two strands: the gaze, captured through a series of richly textured portraits, and the eloquence of gestures, demonstrated by hands at work, and practicing various traditional rituals. The images include pieces by Paris-based artisanal jewellery brand La Caterina, whose process of upcycling vintage silver utensils mirrors the continuity of history, memory, and craft examined in the photographs.
