Experimenter
Co-founded by Prateek and Priyanka Raja in 2009 in Kolkata, Experimenter expanded to Mumbai in 2022 with a gallery in a restored 1890s building in Colaba. The gallery supports critical contemporary voices through exhibitions, talks, performances, and its Curators’ Hub. With initiatives like the Learning Program and artist-book publishing, Experimenter continues to expand the role of an art gallery in an Indian context

Chemould Prescott Road
Established in 1963 by Kekoo and Khorshed Gandhy, Chemould is one of India’s most storied galleries. It promotes interdisciplinary, experimental work and has supported generations of artists from S.H. Raza to Atul and Anju Dodiya. Chemould plays an active role on the global stage, regularly participating in major international art fairs.

Jhaveri Contemporary
Helmed by sisters Amrita and Priya Jhaveri, Jhaveri Contemporary was founded in 2010. Focussed on mining lesser-known art histories, its programme facilitates dialogue between artists, curators and historians. Alongside international contemporary artists like Rana Begum and Shezad Dawood, the gallery represents estates such as Mrinalini Mukherjee and Anwar Jalal Shemza, and has produced landmark projects like Anish Kapoor’s first Indian public show.

Nature Morte
Originally founded in New York in 1982, and arriving in New Delhi in 1997, Nature Morte opened its Mumbai outpost in 2024. Co-directed by Peter Nagy and Aparajita Jain, the gallery represents many of India’s leading artists, including Bharti Kher and L. N. Tallur.

TARQ
Founded in 2014 by Hena Kapadia, TARQ is known for championing young contemporary artists through thoughtful, experimental exhibitions. Project 88
Project 88 inhabits 4000 square feet of what was formerly a century old metal printing press in Colaba, with a roster of some of the most exciting artists working in the Indian subcontinent today. Galerie Mirchandani + Steinruecke
Galerie Mirchandani + Steinruecke was born out of Usha Mirchandani’s pioneering art consultancy and evolved into a gallery in 2006. Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation at CSMVS
The Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation preserves one of the most significant private collections of modern Indian art, assembled by collector Jehangir Nicholson over five decades. Housed within the CSMVS Museum since 2007, it acts as the museum’s modern art wing, with rotating exhibitions drawn from its 800 works, including pieces by artists M. F. Husain, Vasudeo S.
